Caerleon Order Heavy Ordinance

Defending Sovereign, Church, and Country from the Forces of Darkness

Heavy ordinance are weapons that need more than one person to operate effectively, though a few can be used by one person with some difficulty. They have a longer range and provide greater firepower than personal firearms, and are generally used against large groups of monsters.

Machine Guns

Against the most powerful adversaries, those that fall just short of requiring high explosives to destroy, the machine gun is the workhorse of the Order's troops. They provide the greatest amount of firepower delivered by any firearm available.

Its ammunition includes FMJ, AP, and API rounds, along with an APDS. It has the longest range and one of the highest muzzle velocities of any firearm. It can be used as a sniper weapon if fitted with a scope and fired in semi-automatic mode. However, it cannot fire the Raufoss cartridge, so its role as an anti-material gun is limited. It is based on the M2 Browning.

Autocannon

Autocannons are essentially more powerful machine guns: rapid-fire projectile weapons that shoot large caliber shells instead of bullets. They also tend to have a lower rate of fire than automatic firearms.

This weapon is used to defend Order stations and installations. It is also used on the HMA Britannic. It uses a dual feed so an operator can switch between two different ammunitions. It has selective fire capability: single shot semi-automatic, low-rate automatic at 100 rpm, and high rate automatic at 200 rpm. It uses API, HEI, and APDS ammunition. It is fully remote controlled so the operator need not expose him- or herself to danger.

Sentry Guns

These are a relatively recent addition to the Order's arsenal. They are fully automated or robotic weapons systems that are used for sentry duty. They can guard bases and installations, checkpoints, or roads without endangering personnel.

First Generation
Sub Sentry Gun
Full Automatic, Remote Control
Barrel Length: 10.4 in   Weight: 8 lb
Muzzle Velocity: 2,350 ft/s  Effective Range: 1000 ft
Rate of Fire: 900 rounds/min
Sensors: Electro-optical/Imaging Infrared
Straight Blowback, Closed Bolt
FN 5.7x28mm
Linkless feed system

This system is based on the FN P90 submachine gun. While Sir Differel Van Helsing still isn't sure whether to replace the Order's 9mm weaponry, early on she saw the advantage of using this weapon for a remote controlled sentry gun to augment the guard force for her manor and estate as well as the Order stations, substations, and bases. It has become standard for all installations to be equipped with this system as part of its general security.

Second Generation
Light Sentry Gun
Full Automatic, Remote Control
Barrel Length: 24.8 in   Weight: 40 lb
Muzzle Velocity: 2,756 ft/s  Effective Range: 3,500 ft
Rate of Fire: 1,000 rounds/min
Sensors: Electro-optical/Imaging Infrared, Laser Targeting
Gas-operated, Open Bolt
7.62x51mm NATO
Linkless feed system

With the success of the First Generation, Sir Differel authorized the creation of a Second Generation based on the L7A2 General Purpose Machin Gun. It was not designed to replace the First Generation but to augment it at sensitive or critical points with greater firepower. At present, there is one Second Gen gun for every three First Gen guns.

Third Generation
General Purpose Sentry Gun
Full Automatic, Autonomous Control
Barrel Length: 22 in   Weight: 225 lb
Muzzle Velocity: 2,800 ft/s  Effective Range: 4,500 ft
Rate of Fire: 3,000 rounds/min
Sensors: Electro-optical/Imaging Infrared, Laser Targeting
Secondary Weapon: (4) HEAT/WP Rocket-propelled Grenades
Electrically Driven Rotary Breech
7.62x51mm NATO
Linkless feed system

Again, with the success of the Second Generation, Sir Differel authorized the creation of a Third Generation based on the GAU-2/A Minigun. Unlike the previous two, this system has two gatling guns, and is augmented with a launcher containing four rocket-propelled grenades with HEAT or WP warheads. It was designed to provide maximum firepower for the most important sentry posts. Each gun can fire different forms of ammunition, such as AP in one and explosive in the other. At present only three have been made, and these have not seen action, but more are on the way, and firing tests suggest they should be devastating against all but the most powerful monsters.

Fourth Generation
Heavy Sentry Gun
Full Automatic, Autonomous Control
Barrel Length: 87 in   Weight: 400 lb
Muzzle Velocity: 3,400 ft/s  Effective Range: 4,800 ft
Rate of Fire: 900 rounds/min
Sensors: Electro-optical/Imaging Infrared, Laser Targeting
Secondary Weapon: (7) Thales Light Multirole Missiles
API Blowback
20x128mm shells
Linkless feed system

When Dr. Elizabeth Mabuse began working for the Order, one of the first tasks Sir Differel set her was to create a Fourth Generation sentry gun. She broke with tradition and instead of basing it on the heavy machine gun with multiple barrels, she instead based it on the venerable Oerlikon 20mm cannon. Her reasoning was that the previous generations were adequate against the majority of monsters, but what was needed was a sentry gun that could deal with the most powerful creatures. Sir Differel agreed and approved the approach. A prototype has been built, but no working models. Dr. Mabuse created a new composite material for the barrel so that the system could have a high rate of fire without overheating, but the rate was kept low so that the ammunition would not be used up too fast. It also has three separate feeds so that the system can fire three different types of ammunition. Ammunition that can be used is HE, HEI, AP, API, and APDS. Dr. Mabuse is working on a more sophisticated sensor system to make the gun more accurate, but preliminary tests indicate that is should be a very powerful weapon.

Guns

While Sir Differel has masterfully maneuvered to acquire the equipment she believes the Order needs to handle the coming upsurge in paranormal activity through the 21st century, she has been careful not to ask for too much. Even with the backing of Her Majesty, she figured the Ministry of Defence would draw the line at giving her artillery and tanks. As such, the Order has no crew-served weapons beyond mortars, rockets, and missiles, and even those can be fired by one person with difficulty. However, with the acquisition of HMA Britannic the Order has finally acquired true artillery.

Royal Navy 4.5 inch Mark 8
Naval Gun
Full Automatic, Remote Control
Barrel Length: 245 in   Weight: 5,335 lb
Muzzle Velocity: 2,850 ft/s  Effective Range: 13.8 mi
Rate of Fire: 25 rounds/min
Sensors: Electro-optical/Imaging Infrared, Laser Targeting
External Power Mechanically Operated
113mm Fixed Quick-firing 46 lb HE shells
Indexing feed ring

This serves as the primary offensive weapon for HMA Britannic. The airship has two guns, one mounted in the nose and the other in the tail. They are both fully automated, each with 250 rounds preloaded into the indexing ring feed. The shells alternate between HEI and HEDP. Since the number of the airship's offensive missiles is limited, the guns' range, rate of fire, extreme accuracy, high-explosive rounds, and large stores of ammunition make them ideal in anti-aircraft, anti-surface ship, and ground attack roles.
